Wema Bank, NYSC collaborate on youth empowerment

The National Youth Service Corps and Wema Bank have teamed up to introduce the NYSC-ALAT Accelerator Program.

According to The PUNCH, the relationship was unveiled at the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding in Abuja as the bank revealed in a statement.

It stated that the partnership’s goal was to make it possible for young Nigerians to enter the employment market profitably and easily through the program.

The NYSC-ALAT Accelerator Program is an effort designed to provide youngsters enrolled in the NYSC with the necessary tools for career development, job acquisition, and skill acquisition to lower unemployment and underemployment rates and promote economic growth and performance on a national level.

Wema Bank claims that “the initiative will give NYSC members grants and funding to enable them to create long-term revenue streams. It will also, in association with Microsoft, offer digital training in subjects like design thinking, artificial intelligence, programming languages, and content creation.”

To help them create the ideal business plan and to significantly reward the best ideas that promote entrepreneurship and job creation, it was also mentioned that participants would have access to mentorship opportunities and take part in a business plan competition. All participants would also receive loans.

“Wema Bank, with 79 years of financial inclusion, is committed to empowering lives through innovation,” said The Executive Director of Retail and Digital at Wema Bank, Tunde Mabawonku, emphasising the importance of collaboration in his speech.

Through the integration of digital technology into daily life and the promotion of economic growth, this cooperation with NYSC provides a platform for the growth and development of young people in Nigeria. Our goal is to give young people skills that will help them in their career and adult lives long after their service year is over.

Speaking on behalf of the NYSC Director-General, Mr. Ayodele Omotade reaffirmed the corps’ dedication to spearheading the initiative.

“This MOU represents our joint efforts to generate wealth and promote the economic development of Nigerian youth. With the assistance of Wema Bank, we anticipate opening career opportunities for members thereby contributing to the development of a digitally skilled workforce,” he added.
