In an effort to enhance both the security situation and the quality of life for citizens, Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria has promised that the federal government is prepared to safeguard and develop Nigeria’s border villages.
According to ARISE TV, Shettima mentioned the difficulties these areas confront, such as insecurity and a lack of basic utilities, when making this statement at a meeting with a team from the Border areas Development Agency at the State House in Abuja.
“The majority of our problems arise from inadequate border security, which is demonstrated by the unrestricted movement of small arms and ammunition across the border.”
The Vice President declared, “We have to talk about how the BCDA is influencing the security environment in our nation”
He emphasized the significance of border villages for the country’s security and promised to keep funding their development requirements.
Shettima affirmed that “the government is committed to enhancing the people’ access to healthcare and other vital services and highlighted the need for the locals to feel like they belong as Nigerians.”
The Vice President also emphasized the need for more government financing and pushed the BCDA to create a plan for improving the organization.
Prior to Shettima’s speech, the agency’s Executive Secretary, Junaid Abdullahi, recognized the difficulties posed by scarce resources and conveyed optimism that the organization would have the backing it needed to carry out its mission.
“Our border communities feel cut off from the rest of the country due to neglect. Development in our border areas will alleviate some of the load on the core. In addition to addressing most of our security issues, we would have decreased migration from rural to urban areas.
“Under your chairmanship, we are confident that, in keeping with your previous role as Governor of Borno State, you will provide us with the necessary backing to ensure that our agency is adequately funded to fulfil its mandate,” he stated.
