The United States Mission in Nigeria has said its Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025, to mark the U.S. Labour Day holiday.
The announcement, posted Sunday on the Mission’s official X account, noted that the closure is in line with the American holiday established in 1882 to honor workers’ contributions.
The Mission added that routine consular services, including visa processing and passport renewals, will be suspended on Monday and resume on Tuesday.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of the U.S. Labour Day,” the Mission stated.
The Mission clarified that essential services will still be accessible through emergency contact channels, but all routine consular services — including visa interviews, passport renewals, and notarial services — will be suspended for the day.
Normal operations are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and Nigerians seeking consular assistance are advised to plan their applications, appointments, and inquiries accordingly to avoid disruptions.
The Embassy emphasized that its emergency lines will remain available to U.S. citizens in Nigeria who may need urgent assistance. However, Nigerians seeking visas or other routine consular services will have to wait until after the holiday for processing.
The closure is a routine observance of U.S. federal holidays and has no impact on broader diplomatic or bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria remains actively engaged in diplomatic relations, trade facilitation, educational exchanges, and security cooperation.
