The UNESCO Institute for African Culture and International Understanding has launched the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Training for Young Creative Artists at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as announced in a statement on Monday.
Prof. Peter Okebukola, the Director of the institute, stressed the importance of providing entrepreneurial skills to emerging artists and promoting innovation in African culture.
Okebukola, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Universities Commission, outlined the program’s objective of empowering aspiring artists with the essential knowledge and skills for both creative and financial success. He stated, “This initiative is not just a project; it is a beacon, guiding us towards a future where the brilliance of Africa’s artistic talents converges seamlessly with the power of entrepreneurship and innovation.”
The Director highlighted the significance of the initiative in shaping the cultural landscape and contributing to the economic fabric of nations.
The program aims to equip young artists with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of the creative industry, refining their artistic craft, and providing entrepreneurial acumen to turn their passion into sustainable careers.
In line with the goal of promoting gainful employment among the youth and ensuring the widespread availability of cultural products, the IACIU introduced the Entrepreneurship Training for Young Creative Artists program.
This initiative provides vocational training to young artists, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4, particularly target 4.4, which aims to significantly increase the number of youth and adults with relevant skills for employment, good jobs, and entrepreneurship by 2030.
