A UK member of parliament, David Lammy has stated that the Labour government is planning to negotiate a deal to mutually forbid the use of artificial intelligence in decisions regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons, The Telegraph reported.
“There have to be concerns about how AI might be used, for example in nuclear technology – whether any country with nuclear weapons would consider handing over the management of those weapons to AI and how that could go wrong – and the same with automated weapons as well.” Daniel Lammy said.
Governments are attempting to catch up with how AI may be safely governed in light of the technology’s recent rapid growth.
Concerns have been expressed concerning the potential introduction of AI into the decision-making process for the deployment of nuclear weapons.
The UN Security Council will consider AI for the first time later this month, according to Dame Barbara Woodward, the UK ambassador to the UN, who made the announcement last week.
