United Bank for Africa Plc has appointed former executive director Ibrahim Ajimasu Puri as a non-executive director, while also disclosing that its audited financial statements for the six months ended June 30, 2026, are awaiting approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
UBA disclosed the decisions in a notice signed by Bili A. Odum, the group company secretary, following a board meeting held on August 13.
Puri previously served as an executive director of UBA before retiring in 2022.
He currently serves as a non-executive director on the boards of Nigerian Breweries Plc and 9mobile.
He has more than 35 years of experience across banking, fintech, telecommunications and fast-moving consumer goods.
Puri holds a master’s degree in banking and finance from Bayero University, Kano, and has attended executive programmes at Harvard University, the University of Oxford and Euromoney London.
Commenting on the appointment, Tony Elumelu, chairman of UBA Group, said Puri’s experience would strengthen the board.
“I congratulate Mr. Ibrahim Puri on his appointment as a Non-Executive Director. The Board is confident that his extensive experience, depth of expertise and sound judgement will further strengthen the Board and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and success of the Group,” Elumelu said.
Separately, UBA said its audited financial statements for the half-year ended June 30 had been approved by the board, subject to CBN approval.
The bank said it would release the financial statements to the public upon receiving regulatory clearance.
UBA’s closed period will continue until 24 hours after the release of the half-year audited accounts and financial statements.
The bank said it would notify the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public immediately after receiving CBN approval.
