South African billionaire, Johann Rupert, has ousted Nigerian billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, to become Africa’s richest man.
According to Forbes Real-time Global Billionaires Ranking, Rupert’s net worth is currently $12 billion, while Dangote trails behind him with a net worth of $10.8 billion as of Friday, June 16, 2023.
It was reported that, Dangote’s net worth dropped due to the recent operational charges on the foreign exchange market carried out by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which led to the depreciation of the Naira against the US dollar.
Tweeps have since taken to their handles to express their thoughts about the development:
According to @NwekereNdoki, “Dangote is still Africa Richest man as far as we are concerned Rupert is a white man and not from Africa.”
Jokingly, @Mrmogul3, wrote, “Expect to buy cement 10k anytime soon 😒
“Dangote no send us at all, he will do anything to reclaim his mandate.”
Speaking more business-wise, @blackboriginal wrote, “No king rules forever, no condition is permanent, nobody owns the world. As simple as that.
“My concern is, let there be a level playing ground for all Local investors in Nigeria, let’s see who is really who.”
@kayteeRobby believes Dangote will take back his position soon, as he wrote, “Dangote that is Building a Refinery that will import PMS? Na small time. He will overthrow that whiteman. But wait, are black people not successful in South Africa?”
Another comical reaction by @EmmyTsav read, “From which Africa is this Caucasian??”
