United States President-elect Donald Trump has suggested he may favor keeping TikTok, citing its widespread appeal, as a ban on the app is set to take effect in less than a month.
Trump highlighted TikTok’s influence to supporters in Phoenix, Arizona, saying, “We had a great response with billions of views, billions and billions of views. They brought me a chart, and it was a record. I said, ‘Maybe we gotta keep this sucker around for a little while.’”
Trump reportedly met with TikTok CEO on Monday, later expressing a “warm spot” for the app. His comments come as President Joe Biden’s April legislation requiring TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the platform by January 19, 2025, faces legal challenges.
ByteDance has taken the fight to court, with the Supreme Court set to hear arguments on January 10. The impending deadline comes just one day before Trump is slated to take office.
The outcome of this legal and political battle could determine the future of TikTok in the U.S., as Trump’s remarks signal a possible shift in approach to the platform’s fate.
