United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had ordered a halt to threatened military strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure following productive discussions with Tehran.
The announcement came amid an ongoing conflict in the Middle East, now in its fourth week, which has involved tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy facilities.
Trump stated that the United States and Iran had engaged in talks over the previous two days.
The United States and Iran “have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump wrote, in all capitals, early Monday on his Truth Social platform.
He described the discussions as positive and indicated they would proceed further.
“Based on the tenor and tone” of the talks, “witch (sic) will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings,” he added.
The pause provides a temporary window for negotiations to potentially de-escalate the situation, though no confirmation from Iranian officials on the talks was immediately available in reports.
