Trump demands immediate resignation of Intel CEO

US senator questions Intel CEO’s China ties over security concerns

United States President, Donald Trump, has called for the immediate resignation of the Intel CEO.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump accused Intel Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan of being “highly CONFLICTED,” adding that “there is no other solution to this problem.”

Intel shares dropped 5% in premarket trading following the statement.

Intel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lip-Bu Tan was appointed CEO in March as Intel sought to recover from slumping sales under former chief Pat Gelsinger.

Earlier in the week, US Sen. Tom Cotton raised concerns about Tan’s ties to Chinese companies and pointed to a past criminal case involving Cadence Design Systems, where Tan served as CEO until 2021, according to Reuters.

Cotton sent a letter to Intel’s chair raising concerns about the company’s security practices and the potential risks they pose to U.S. national security.

“Intel is required to be a responsible steward of American taxpayer dollars and to comply with applicable security regulations,” Cotton wrote. “Mr. Tan’s associations raise questions about Intel’s ability to fulfill these obligations,” according to Reuters.
