Toyota Nigeria Limited has announced its plan to launch three electric vehicles in Nigeria over the next three years, aligning with the government’s green deal initiative.
This announcement was made by TNL’s Managing Director, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, during the inaugural Toyota Motor Show organized by the company.
Mr. Ade-Ojo revealed that the Toyota Cross, RAV4, and Land Cruiser Prado hybrid electric vehicles will soon be available in Nigeria. “By the end of this year, we’ll be introducing our first hybrid electric vehicle, the Toyota Cross. Next year, we’ll introduce the RAV4 hybrid. And late next year or early 2026, we will be bringing in the Land Cruiser Prado hybrid,” he stated.
In addition to the rollout of hybrid vehicles, TNL is also supporting the Federal Government’s campaign for the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles through conversion. Mr. Ade-Ojo mentioned that TNL is finalizing partnerships to utilize its extensive network of workshops for vehicle conversions to CNG power. “We are almost concluding arrangements with different partners to use our network of workshops for vehicle conversion to CNG-powered,” he said.
Reflecting on the automotive market, Mr. Ade-Ojo noted that approximately 10,000 new vehicles were sold in Nigeria last year, with Toyota accounting for about 1,500 units. He projected that about 15,000 new vehicles would be sold in Nigeria this year, adding that Toyota aims to double its performance from the previous year.
This move by Toyota Nigeria Limited marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation solutions in Nigeria, contributing to the global push for greener, more environmentally friendly automotive options.
