Over the weekend, a maritime expert and the owner of one of Nigeria’s biggest tug supply vessels, MV Atlantic Brigand, Dr Augustine Ndubisi, won the Lord Wilson golf open tournament which took place at Lakowe Lakes Golf Resort in Lagos.

According to a statement released by the event’s organizers on Tuesday, Mr. Ndubisi, who played off a handicap of 17, won with a score of one stroke under par.

The statement claimed that a banker located in Lagos, Okposo Hector, came in third place, closely followed by the secretary general of the Abuja MOU, Sunday Umoren, who played with a handicap of 28.

A marketing consultant, Emmanuel Emoghware, received the individual medal for getting as close to the pin as possible on the par-3 14th hole, while Mendes Seun won it for the longest drive with a Tee shot of 248 metres on the par-4 18th hole.

Abuja MOU Secretary General, Captain Sunday Umoren, spoke shortly after getting his trophy and expressed his appreciation for more maritime stakeholders playing golf.

“I am thrilled that shipowners are now playing golf with us. I eagerly anticipate the day when Nigeria will host a global golf competition for marine industry participants.

Mr. Augustine Ndubisi promised that he would spearhead efforts to persuade Nigerian maritime sector players to take up golf.

The administration of Lakowe Golf Course is dedicated to hosting national and international events, according to Mr. Bayo Alli of ARM Group, the course’s owner, to guarantee that Nigeria is recognised internationally in the sport of golf.

He expressed his interest at the current level of interest in golf among maritime industry stakeholders.
