Tinubu unveils plan to revolutionise agriculture

Nigeria@64: Tinubu unveils plan to create 2.5m jobs

President Bola Tinubu announced a sweeping initiative to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector, aiming to enhance food production, attract investment, and create jobs.

Speaking at the National Assembly during his Democracy Day address on Thursday, Tinubu outlined a strategic vision to make farming a cornerstone of economic growth.

He stated that his administration is committed to making agriculture more appealing and dynamic, and called on the legislature to collaborate in driving the sector’s transformation.

“We are making agriculture more sexy by providing tractors and I ask you, the legislature, to join me as we enter the second half of our term to put forth innovative legislation that further encourages industrial development and job creation in our urban centres while also drafting laws that improve food security and production,” Tinubu said.

President Tinubu unveiled plans for a landmark empowerment initiative set to launch in July, targeting 400,000 beneficiaries.

The program forms part of comprehensive economic reforms designed to strengthen local production and cut down on food importation

“We must learn to produce what we eat,” Tinubu stated.

He highlighted his administration’s plan to roll out modern farming equipment nationwide and adopt digital technologies to boost efficiency and curb waste.

Tinubu noted that, together with tax reforms and anti-corruption efforts at the Bank of Industry, these initiatives are laying the foundation for strong and sustainable economic growth

“We have placed the economy on a more rational footing where critical decisions regarding large-scale investment can now be made,” he noted.

He urged legislative support for new laws that would encourage industrial development while improving food production.
