President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Musa Adamu as the new Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The Federal Executive Council was preceded by the ceremony, which was held in the State House Council Chambers.
In addition, eleven other people were sworn in as members of the Federal Civil Service Commission, including Professor Tunji Olaopa, who was appointed as its chairman.
Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, presented a citation stating that the newly appointed ICPC Chairman served as Jigsaw State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice from 2019 to 2023.
The newly appointed Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Professor Olaopa, is from Oyo State. He brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having held positions as a Permanent Secretary in five ministries and an academic background.
Dr. Daudu Jalo, Gekpe Isu (Akwa Ibom and Cross River), Dr. Chamberlain Nwele (Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu), Rufus Godwins (Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa), Dr. Adamu Hussein (Niger and the FCT), and Aminu Nabegu (Jigawa and Kano) are among the members of the FCSC who were sworn in.
The others are Jide Jimoh (Lagos and Ogun), Shehu Aliyu (Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara), Hindatu Abdullahi (Kaduna and Katsina), and Dr. Festus Oyebade (Osun and Oyo).
The FEC meeting came after the swearing-in ceremony almost immediately.
Ngelale clarified that the Senate will appropriately screen the nomination at the time the commission’s chairmen and members were appointed.
The outgoing Chairman’s request to take a pre-end of tenure leave starting on November 4, 2023, in advance of his tenure expiring on February 3, 2024, he said, made the appointment necessary.
The new Chairman of the ICPC is nominated for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, following the President’s approval of the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave beginning on November 4, 2023, ahead of the expiration of his tenure on February 3, 2024.
According to the President’s directive, Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu’s appointment as Secretary of the Commission is effective immediately since the position does not need Senate confirmation.
“Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, who has a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate in law, has implemented numerous extensive reforms since taking office as Jigawa State’s attorney general in September 2019.” In October 2023, he was designated as a senior Advocate of Nigeria,” he added.
