Tinubu names three new, retains three NMDPRA directors

President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, comprising three returning officials and three new appointees.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 30, 2026, noting that Tinubu had forwarded the nominations to the Senate for consideration.

The nominees are expected to serve five-year terms, subject to Senate confirmation.

Tinubu has also approved the appointment of a new Secretary and Legal Adviser for the regulatory agency.

Onanuga said three of the nominees are returning to their current positions, while the remaining three are new appointees.

The returning executive directors are Mr Abiodun Adeniji, who oversees Finance and Accounts; Mr Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, responsible for Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde, who heads Health, Safety, Environment and Community.

The newly nominated executive directors are Mr Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa, for Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure, and Ms Ogechukwu Modie, for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning.

“In the statement, Onanuga said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in a letter to the Senate.

“Three nominees are being reappointed, while three are new. Once the Senate approves them, all nominees will serve a five-year term.”

The nominations are subject to Senate confirmation, after which the six executive directors will assume their respective positions for the stipulated five-year tenure.

Tinubu has also requested expedited Senate consideration of the nominations to facilitate the appointment process.

Meanwhile, the President has approved the appointment of Mrs Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser of the NMDPRA.

Onanuga said the appointment is subject to the completion of statutory procedures in line with Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry.

Onanuga said the President had urged the Senate to expedite consideration of the nominations to ensure institutional continuity and strengthen the Authority’s oversight capacity.

He also recalled that Tinubu appointed Engr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the agency’s chief executive in April 2026.

The latest nominations are part of ongoing leadership changes at the petroleum regulatory authority, as the President moves to fill key executive positions and ensure continuity in the agency’s operations.
