President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
It follows the resignation of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who reportedly stepped down to pursue political preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, the elevation of Odumegwu-Ojukwu represents a return to a more senior position within Nigeria’s foreign service structure, having previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In her new role, she is expected to lead Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, steer foreign policy priorities, strengthen international partnerships, and promote the country’s economic diplomacy agenda.
