President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
The visit was announced on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through an official statement.
The Presidency stated that the trip is intended to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in critical sectors, including security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.
“The state visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing its long-standing relationship with Türkiye while opening new areas for collaboration that will benefit both nations,” Onanuga said.
The visit is also a reciprocal gesture following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s state visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
During the trip, President Tinubu will hold high-level political and diplomatic discussions with Turkish officials, with focus on shared priorities in finance, communications, trade, and investment.
Onanuga further revealed that the talks will lead to the signing of several memoranda of understanding in areas such as scientific research, energy development, technical cooperation, defence and military relations, media and communications, as well as diplomatic protocol.
“The programme will include engagements between senior officials of both governments and the execution of agreements aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation,” the statement added.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will be part of the itinerary, providing a platform for investors from both nations to explore new commercial opportunities and partnerships.
The President’s delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Also accompanying the President are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria upon conclusion of the state visit.
