President Bola Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on Sunday to participate in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit, ADSW 2026, taking place in the emirate.
The President arrived at about 11:30 pm local time and was received by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State in the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Tinubu’s participation followed an invitation extended to him by the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit is a weeklong annual event that brings together leaders from government, business and civil society to deliberate on pathways and strategies for the next phase of global sustainable development.
Explaining the significance of the event, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the summit, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” is designed to link ambition with concrete action across innovation, finance and human capital.
“With the theme ‘The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,’ ADSW will connect ambition with action across innovation, finance, and people, showcasing how the world can move forward with confidence,” Onanuga explained.
President Tinubu’s arrival in Abu Dhabi came after a series of engagements across Nigeria and abroad during the end-of-year period.
Recall that the President departed Abuja on December 23 on a three-state visit to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States.
While in Borno State, President Tinubu commissioned several projects executed by the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Zulum in collaboration with the Federal Government.
During the Borno visit, the President also attended the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor and Senator, Ali Modu Sheriff, and his bride, Hadiza Kam Salem.
From Maiduguri, President Tinubu proceeded to Bauchi State, where he paid a condolence visit to the Bauchi State Government and the family of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, the renowned Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi died on November 27.
Following the condolence visit in Bauchi, the President travelled to Lagos, where he spent the end-of-year holidays.
In Lagos, President Tinubu was the guest of honour at the Eyo Festival held on December 27.
On Sunday, December 28, the President departed Lagos for Europe, marking the continuation of his end-of-year break before proceeding to Abu Dhabi for the sustainability summit.
