President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
This decision follows the successful confirmation of the board members by the Senate on December 16.
The announcement was made public through a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the official statement, Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the commission.
Dr Oseni is a veteran of the agency, having originally joined as a commissioner in January 2017. He later served as the Vice Chairman before assuming the role of chairman on December 1, 2025.
His leadership tenure is scheduled to continue until the completion of his 10-year term, which is in strict accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
In addition to the chairmanship, Dr Yusuf Ali was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the commission.
Dr Ali’s history with the commission began with his first appointment as a commissioner in February 2022. He transitioned into his new leadership role on December 1, 2025, and is expected to serve until his first term concludes.
The reconstituted board also features several returning members, including Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all of whom are currently serving their second terms as commissioners.
Mr Shatti and Mr Akpeneye were initially appointed to the commission in January 2017, while Mrs Bello received her appointment in December 2020.
The board further includes Dr Chidi Ike, who is currently serving his first term as a commissioner following his appointment in February 2022.
Dr Fouad Animashaun has also joined the commission as a commissioner, with his official appointment taking effect from December 2025.
Dr Animashaun brings significant experience as an energy economist and previously held the positions of Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer at the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023,” the statement read.
