Tinubu appoints Shu’aibu Aliyu as PTDF executive secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund.

The President also renewed the tenure of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The appointments take immediate effect, according to a statement issued on April 2, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

In the statement issued on the State House website, Onanuga said,
‘’President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). He replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned to participate in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

‘’President Tinubu has also renewed Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz’s appointment as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term. Both appointments take immediate effect.’’

Professor Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the PTDF to contest the Adamawa State governorship in the 2027 general elections.

Before his appointment, Aliyu was the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education.

In his new position, he will lead the PTDF, the agency tasked with building human capacity and technical expertise for Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

The presidency said Aliyu brings experience across academia, research, and public sector administration. He is expected to supervise the fund’s training programmes, scholarship administration, and institutional support initiatives for the oil and gas sector.

Abdulaziz brings more than three decades of experience in the power sector and has participated in regional electricity initiatives, including the West African Power Pool.

The TCN oversees the bulk transmission of electricity from generation companies to distribution firms, making it a vital link in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Both decisions are part of the federal government’s broader push to strengthen institutions in the energy and power sectors, with emphasis on enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.
