ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, appears to be venturing into photo sharing with a potential new app called TikTok Photos, as indicated by code discovered within the TikTok app.

The APK file of TikTok, analyzed by The SpAndroid blog, reveals references and icons related to TikTok Photos, described as a platform for “like-minded people who enjoy photo posts.”

The description found in the APK version 33.8.4 suggests that TikTok Photos will cater to various content creators, including world travelers and food bloggers, providing them with a dedicated space to share their visual experiences. The platform aims to facilitate connections among users with similar interests.

TikTok Photos is envisioned as a photo-sharing platform where users can easily discover and enjoy photo posts from creators. The representative icon of TikTok Photos in the APK reflects the familiar color scheme of the TikTok brand.

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is expanding its portfolio to compete across various sectors. In addition to TikTok Music, which rivals platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, ByteDance is also exploring opportunities to challenge YouTube with the introduction of 30-minute videos.

Moreover, the platform recently introduced text posts to compete with platforms like X and Threads, signaling its ambition to diversify its offerings. While users can already share photo posts on TikTok, the development of TikTok Photos suggests a dedicated effort to elevate the prominence of photos within the ByteDance ecosystem.
