Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that Threads users connected to the fediverse can now see followers and likes from other platforms like Mastodon and Pixelfed.
This update also extends the time for users to edit their posts from five to 15 minutes, allowing for greater flexibility. Users can access these new features by tapping on a post’s activity or follower list to view their “fediverse followers” and “fediverse likes.”
This enhancement follows Threads’ ongoing integration with the fediverse, which began in March. Recently, users have been able to see replies from the fediverse on others’ posts, while replies to their own posts have been available since June. Although responding to replies from other servers isn’t currently possible, the feature is in development.
With nearly 200 million users, Threads stands as the largest social network to adopt the decentralized ActivityPub protocol, contributing to a fediverse total of over 12 million users.
