Threads, X’s major rival, will launch a web version of the app soon, Wall Street Journal reported.
The change was disclosed by Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, on Friday and he claimed that internal testing had already begun, according to the WSJ
Before, users had to use their smartphones in order to access all of the app’s functions and could not do so online.
In a Threads comment, Mosseri stated, “We’ve been using an early version internally for a week or two.” Before we can make it available to everyone, however, it still needs more improvement.
Although the debut of Threads was generally successful—it added more than 100 million users in its first week—there have also been problems.
Using data from Android users, SimilarWeb, which monitors traffic on various websites, discovered in late July that Threads had experienced a decline in activity since its early days.
Their data shows that on July 7, when traffic was at its peak, there were 49 million daily active Android users worldwide; the next week, there were only 23.6 million daily active users. The 23.6 million number is almost 25% of X’s daily audience.
More upgrades, including enhanced search capabilities, have been promised by Mosseri and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in recent weeks as Threads tries to catch up with X. Other enhancements, such as post notifications for particular accounts and the creation of a chronological feed, have also been made available.
