Threads surpasses 50 million users

Threads, the highly anticipated “Twitter Killer” app from Meta, has amassed an astonishing 50 million users within a mere 24 hours of its launch.

The text-based microblogging service, intricately tied to Meta’s popular photo and video-sharing platform, Instagram, has seen an unprecedented surge in registrations.

While Meta’s leveraging of its massive user base of over 2.35 billion active Instagram users undoubtedly contributed to this milestone, rival Twitter is already feeling the pressure.

The new CEO of Twitter has issued a statement, and reports suggest that the social media giant is contemplating legal action against Meta.

Renowned tech journalist Alex Heath, reporting on Threads via a post on the app itself, disclosed that internal data from Meta confirmed over 48 million user registrations.

User Joe Scannell (Threads: @joe_scannel) shared a screenshot indicating that the number of sign-ups has now surpassed 50 million.

To incentivize users to join and engage with the service, Meta displays a unique serial number on each user’s Instagram profile, signifying their registration date.

Threads has surged to the top of app store charts in numerous countries, including the United States and India.

In India, the app currently holds the coveted position of the top free app on iOS, surpassing popular platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.

Furthermore, Threads achieved the fifth spot on the App Store in China, an impressive feat considering Meta’s other apps are presently blocked in the country.

It is important to note that while Threads launched simultaneously on the App Store and Google Play Store, the app is not yet available worldwide.

Meta has yet to roll out the service in the European Union, likely due to the region’s stringent privacy regulations.

Within its first day, the Threads app witnessed an astounding 95 million posts, amassing an impressive total of 190 million likes, as reported by The Verge.

The future of Threads looks promising as it continues to captivate millions of users worldwide.

Its rapid ascent in popularity signifies a significant shift in the social media landscape, and Meta’s ambitious venture is poised to reshape how people connect and share their thoughts online.
