TETFUND has announced its intervention allocations for 2025, with universities set to receive N2.8 billion each, polytechnics N1.9 billion, and colleges of education N2.1 billion.
The funding is part of a larger N700 billion package approved by President Bola Tinubu to bolster infrastructure, research, and development across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed this during the 2025 Strategic Planning Meeting held in Abuja on Thursday with heads of beneficiary institutions.
Echono detailed the structure of the 2025 intervention, stating that 91.08% of the total allocation is earmarked for direct disbursements. This includes 48.90% for annual direct disbursements and 42.18% for special direct disbursements. Special projects, including infrastructure development, will receive 8.72% of the funding, while 0.20% is reserved for stabilization funds.
“In line with the Federal Government’s directives, all Physical Infrastructure Development allocations for 2025 will be dedicated to upgrading, rehabilitating, and renovating dilapidated infrastructure in our beneficiary institutions,” Echono stated.
A significant portion of the funds will also be channeled toward research, innovation, academic staff training, and manuscript development. Echono emphasized that more institutions would benefit from special and designated projects this year.
He urged institutional heads to ensure full utilization of their 2024 and previous allocations while expediting the procurement process to access their 2025 funds. He also encouraged collaboration within academic communities for effective project planning and advised institutions to engage consultancy and physical planning units to ensure the success of these initiatives.
“I urge all heads of beneficiary institutions to ensure the full utilization of their allocations and fast-track implementation,” he said.
With this substantial allocation, the government aims to address the pressing challenges in Nigeria’s tertiary education system and improve the overall learning environment.
