Elon Musk on Monday publicly dismissed the idea of a merger between Tesla and his artificial intelligence company, xAI, amid growing speculation over the future alignment of the two entities.
Responding to a post by X account @BullStreetBets_—which asked Tesla investors whether they supported a potential merger—Musk replied with a definitive “No,” signaling his opposition to combining the electric vehicle giant with the AI startup.
The comment comes amid ongoing deliberations by the tech billionaire over how his various companies will interact moving forward. Overnight, Musk indicated that Tesla may hold a shareholder vote—at an undetermined date—on whether the automaker should invest in xAI, the AI firm behind the controversial Grok chatbot.
Last year, Musk polled his followers on X, asking whether Tesla should invest $5 billion into xAI. A majority supported the idea at the time.
Musk has increasingly sought to align his companies more closely.
In March, he merged xAI with X in a deal that valued the AI firm at $80 billion and the social media platform at $33 billion.
Musk also revealed last week that xAI’s chatbot, Grok, will soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles, further blurring the lines between his automotive and AI ventures.
