China’s market regulator announced on Friday that Tesla will rectify software issues in 8,700 vehicles to enhance safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
This action, affecting 1,071 imported Model S and Model X, along with 7,629 China-produced Model 3 vehicles, is categorized as a product recall under Chinese regulations. It remains unclear whether drivers will be required to return vehicles to Tesla for refunds.
The recall addresses a specific problem related to the rear camera integrated circuit communication in some vehicles. Software issues have resulted in unstable communication, impacting the rear camera’s functionality during reversing.
This instability poses a risk to the driver’s field of vision, increasing the likelihood of collisions and presenting safety hazards, as outlined by the regulator.
While the announcement emphasizes Tesla’s commitment to addressing safety concerns, it raises questions about the logistics of the recall process, including potential vehicle returns and refund eligibility for affected drivers.
The regulator’s intervention underscores China’s vigilance in enforcing safety standards within the automotive industry, prioritizing the well-being of consumers and minimizing potential risks associated with software-related issues in Tesla vehicles.
