Tesla has initiated a recall affecting 3,878 units of its 2024 Cybertruck model due to a potential issue with the accelerator pedal.
The concern arose when it was found that the accelerator pedal might become lodged, leading to inadvertent acceleration and a heightened risk of accidents.
According to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the accelerator pedal pad could dislodge and get trapped by the interior trim. The recall encompasses Cybertrucks from the model year 2024 manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024.
Fortunately, as of the latest update, Tesla has not been notified of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities resulting from this issue, as confirmed by the NHTSA. Tesla has already taken action by equipping the Cybertrucks currently in production with an updated accelerator pedal component as of this week.
Tesla, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has committed to replacing or repairing the affected accelerator pedal assemblies at no cost to the owners. Those affected can reach out to Tesla’s customer service at 1-877-798-3752, referencing the recall number SB-24-33-003.
Notification letters will be dispatched to affected vehicle owners starting in June to inform them of the recall. This recall comes as Tesla grapples with the challenges of ramping up production for its highly anticipated Cybertruck, which faced delays of two years from its initial timeline.
Musk candidly acknowledged the production hurdles during the company’s third-quarter conference call in October, stating, “We dug our own grave with Cybertruck.”
