Tesla has increased the prices of its Model S, X, and Y electric vehicles in the United States by a low digit per cent, but they are still considerably lower than at the beginning of the year.
Based on the company’s website, it raised the prices of all versions of its higher-priced Model S and X vehicles by $1,000, while prices of all Model Y versions increased by $250, which represents an increase of about 0.5 per cent to 1.1 per cent since the last price changes.
According to Reuters, this is the second price hike for these models since April 19th, and the prices of the cheapest car, Model 3, remained unchanged.
Tesla has cut its prices globally six times since January, including six times in the US, to drive volume.
The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk once said the company was willing to sacrifice margin for sales volume, he was also looking to move prices back higher.
Speaking about the reasons for the initial price cut, Musk said, “Tesla is willing to sacrifice margin for sales volume but is also looking to move prices back higher, where it can, to match deliveries with output.”
Despite the latest price hike, the base models of Model S and Model X cars are still cheaper by 16 per cent and 19 per cent respectively in the US, compared to the start of the year, while the long-range version of Model Y is about 23 per cent cheaper. The prices of the cars range from $47,490 to $108,490.
