Telegram CEO Pavel Durov revealed on Wednesday that the company is set to launch its ad platform next month, enabling channel owners to earn financial rewards.
The rewards will be distributed in toncoin on the TON blockchain, with channel owners receiving 50% of the revenue generated by displaying ads in their channels.
While Telegram’s broadcast channels amass one trillion views monthly, only 10% of these views are monetized through Telegram Ads.
In a shift towards content monetization, the Telegram Ad Platform will be open to channel owners in nearly one hundred countries starting March.
Durov emphasized the use of the TON blockchain for ad payments and withdrawals, ensuring speed and security. Telegram will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This approach aims to create a beneficial cycle, allowing content creators to either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest them in channel promotion and enhancements.
While eligibility specifics were not provided in the announcement, Telegram’s move into ad revenue sharing aligns it with platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter). YouTube, for instance, offers a 55% share of ad revenue to creators in its YouTube Partner Program.
Telegram, with over 800 million monthly active users globally, and users generating more than 500 billion views in broadcast channels each month, is positioned to become a significant player in the content monetization landscape.
