Telegram founder to share wealth with his over 100 children

The billionaire founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, has disclosed that he intends to distribute his entire fortune among more than 100 children he has fathered across the world.

In a candid interview with French magazine Le Point, the 40-year-old Russian entrepreneur revealed that many of the children were born as a result of sperm donations he made 15 years ago. “The clinic where I started donating sperm 15 years ago told me that more than 100 babies had been conceived this way in 12 countries,” Durov said.

In addition to these children, Durov also has six children of his own with three different women. He emphasized that he considers all of them equally his and plans to ensure they are treated the same in matters of inheritance.

“They are all my children and will all have the same rights,” he said. “I don’t want them to tear each other apart after my death.”

However, Durov noted that none of the children will have access to the inheritance for another 30 years. He explained that the delay is intentional, aimed at encouraging them to build independent lives.

“I want them to live like normal people, to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves, to be able to create, not to be dependent on a bank account,” he said.

Durov also revealed he has already written a will, citing the risks associated with his role at Telegram. “Defending freedoms earns you many enemies, including within powerful states,” he stated.

Telegram, the encrypted messaging app he founded, now boasts over one billion monthly active users and is widely known for its strong stance on user privacy.

During the interview, Durov also addressed legal troubles in France, where he faces criminal charges for allegedly failing to prevent illegal activities—including drug trafficking and child abuse content—on the Telegram platform. He dismissed the accusations as “totally absurd.”

“Just because criminals use our messaging service among many others doesn’t make those who run it criminals,” he said.

Telegram has maintained that it actively works to moderate harmful content, pushing back against allegations of negligence.
