Operations at the domestic wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja were disrupted on Monday after a technical fault hit the baggage screening Technical Glitch Disrupts system, leading to delays for passengers, particularly those travelling with Air Peace.
In a statement, the airline’s management said the malfunction significantly slowed baggage screening and loading, affecting its scheduled departures.
It was gathered that the incident left many passengers stranded at the terminal, with several voicing frustration over prolonged waiting times.
Air Peace said, “We sincerely regret to inform you of a temporary disruption affecting flight operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Domestic Terminal, specifically impacting baggage processing and loading.”
The airline explained that the disruption was caused by a technical fault in the terminal’s baggage screening equipment, which has slowed normal operations.
The airline appealed for passengers’ understanding, adding that steps were being taken to minimise the disruption and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience and uncertainty this may cause, and we truly appreciate your patience during this time,” the statement added.
To sustain operations, the airline said it had introduced alternative baggage screening arrangements, noting, however, that the interim measures have resulted in additional delays.
” To minimise disruption, we have proactively activated alternative screening procedures using available equipment to ensure flights continue operating safely. However, these additional steps may result in longer processing times and possible delays to some departures,” it said.
Air Peace assured passengers that its staff were actively working to manage the situation and support those affected. The airline added that it is collaborating with relevant airport authorities to resolve the fault swiftly and restore normal operations.
The statement reads further, “Our ground teams are fully mobilised and on hand to support passengers, provide updates, and prioritise affected flights. “We are also working closely with airport authorities to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore normal operations.”
The airline apologised for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the impact of the disruption on passengers.
“Please be assured that we are doing everything within our control to expedite the process and reduce the impact on your travel plans. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” it added.
