The popular tap-to-earn app powered by the TON Blockchain, Tapswap, has announced an indefinite postponement of token allocation to its users.
The announcement was made by John Robbin, Tapswap’s Head of Communications, during an X space on Wednesday.
The app, which requires users to repeatedly tap an icon on the Telegram Tapswap bot screen to mine coins, has gained significant traction among Nigerians.
Since its launch on February 15, 2024, Tapswap has amassed over 50 million users, all tapping on their phone screens in hopes of financial rewards.
Robbin explained that the method of token allocation is still being determined, emphasizing that details cannot be communicated until the process is finalized. “The token launch was postponed until July 1. The new date will be communicated,” Robbin stated. “We will allocate a significant part of the tokens to the community to retain the tappers. We want you all to be part of the Tapswap community. We need a token airdrop to be a win-win for all of us. We have started communicating with many exchanges and platforms.”
Robbin also addressed concerns about users exploiting the app, stating that mechanisms are in place to ban those abusing the system. “Those using the mechanism to farm taps and abuse the game will be banned by running checks from the community members while seeking genuine tappers’ patience,” he said.
Detailing the mining process, Robbin explained, “Just open the app and tap on it; that will give you shares. The more you tap and the more upgrades you do, the more shares you will have when we finalize the tokens on it. The more tokens you want to have, the more tapping you have to do.”
Regarding the recently ended booster option, Robbin clarified that it was an optional paid feature introduced to accommodate the rapid influx of new users. “We introduced the limited x2 donation because the new influx of users kept coming in, and we needed them to make something out of it and get a fair allocation at TGE. It was a platform that allowed people who joined recently to compete with people who started earlier. It is gone for now, but we are looking forward to using the money we earned from it to improve the game in the future. It is all going to our 25 staffers working around the clock to sustain the app. We want to be here for a very long time.”
Robbin encouraged people to continue joining the app, assuring them there is still time to earn appreciable tokens. The app’s popularity has led to widespread engagement, with many Nigerians, both young and old, obsessively tapping their phones.
In a viral clip, a Keke driver was seen tapping on his phone with one hand while steering his vehicle with the other. Another viral video showed several traders in Northern Nigeria vigorously tapping on their screens.
As Tapswap continues to grow, its team remains committed to finding the best ways to reward its dedicated users while ensuring the app’s long-term sustainability.
