Streaming platform, Spotify has disclosed that it has begun testing a feature that prevents certain of its free customers, including Nigerians, from seeing song lyrics.
To that end, some users of Spotify’s free tier received an email that read, “Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium.”
According to Spotify PR executive, CJ Stanley, this adjustment is “just a test.” In an email to TechCrunch, Stanley further stated that the company is “currently testing this with a limited number of users in a pair of markets.”
While Spotify has promoted its free tier with advertising as the future of the music platform, it hasn’t given its free tier much attention lately.
CJ Stanley, a PR executive for Spotify, did not elaborate on whether this test would be made permanent. It looks that the company is doing a small test to measure user reactions. However, it’s still simple to find free lyrics online.
