Spotify has introduced a new set of tools aimed at authors and publishers distributing their audiobooks on its platform with the launch of Spotify for Authors.
The new service, similar to the company’s existing tools for artists and creators, provides audiobook creators with detailed insights and analytics on their content’s performance.
Spotify for Authors will allow writers and publishers to track the consumption of their audiobooks and catalogs, offering a deeper understanding of their audience. In addition to audiobook listening habits, the platform will provide data on the types of podcasts their listeners enjoy.
This unique feature will help authors target promotional efforts more effectively by identifying which podcasts may be the best fit for book promotions or advertising.
The new platform also gives authors and publishers access to marketing tools, such as the ability to share royalty-free copies of their books via redemption codes (with publisher permission) and to distribute promotional assets through social media-friendly promo cards.
Furthermore, authors can now create personalized profiles on Spotify, allowing fans to explore more about their favorite writers, much like they would with their favorite musical artists.
Spotify plans to enhance Spotify for Authors in the coming year with more tools and insights. One notable upcoming feature is the “follow-along experience,” currently in testing, which will offer synchronized visuals such as illustrations, photos, and graphics alongside the audiobook’s narration. This feature aims to create an immersive listening experience that brings books to life in new ways.
The move comes as part of Spotify’s ongoing push to expand its audiobooks offerings. This year, the company extended its audiobook features to Premium subscribers outside the U.S. and introduced video content.
As competition in the audiobook industry intensifies, particularly with Amazon’s Audible, Spotify continues to innovate to attract audiobook listeners. In response, Audible recently added one free audiobook to its top music-streaming subscription plan.
