Spotify Technology is exploring a tool driven by AI that would translate podcasts into other languages, the audio-streaming platform said on Monday.
The goal is the Swedish company’s most recent effort to capitalise on generative artificial intelligence, the technology that has become extremely popular since ChatGPT’s emergence, in order to get new customers and increase income.
According to Spotify, the translated versions will sound more genuine than conventional dubbing because they will mimic the original speaker’s voice and be powered by the recently revealed voice generation technology from OpenAI.
According to Spotify, the voice translations would be offered in languages including Spanish, French, and German for a small number of back episodes and upcoming episode releases, which might increase the shows’ viewership.
