Music streaming giant Spotify faced a major service disruption on Wednesday, affecting users across several countries, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

As of 9:32 a.m. ET, more than 47,000 users had reported issues with the platform.

The outage reportedly began around 6:15 p.m. IST (8:45 a.m. ET), with users flagging problems ranging from the inability to search or view artists to disrupted streaming services.

However, many reported that downloaded songs were still accessible.

Spotify acknowledged the issue in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out.”

In a separate update, the company dismissed speculation of a security breach, stating, “We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false.”

Downdetector tracks outages by aggregating status reports from multiple sources, including user-submitted feedback. As of press time, Spotify had not disclosed the cause of the disruption or a timeline for full service restoration.
