Elon Musk’s space company, SpaceX, on Monday, signed a contract to launch up to four of Europe’s premier navigation and secure communications satellites into space, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The arrangement still requires final approval from the EU member states and the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, according to the report.
The agency’s Head of Navigation, Javier Benedicto, said SpaceX and the European Space Agency recently signed a deal for two launches carrying two Galileo satellites each next year.
According to the deal, the satellites must be launched from the United States on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
Last month, European space officials stated that after a string of delays, they must make critical timing decisions about the restart of Europe’s main space launchers.
