SpaceX has introduced a new option for Starlink users in the US, making the compact Starlink Mini available independently of residential subscriptions.
Initially offered to select users in late June, this miniature version of the Starlink dish is designed for portability, fitting conveniently into a backpack.
Previously, acquiring the Starlink Mini required a $150 standard service plan, with an optional $30 per month for the Mini Roam service. Now, users can opt for the Mini with a dedicated roaming service.
For those frequently on the move or residing in mobile settings like RVs, the mobile regional plan is priced at $150 per month, offering unlimited data access. Alternatively, the Mini Roam plan costs $50 monthly and provides 50GB of data, suitable for occasional travelers or part-time remote dwellers. Notably, the Mini Roam service supports mobile use on land at any time.
The Starlink Mini kit, priced at $599, includes essential accessories such as a kickstand, pipe adapter, power supply, and a USB-C to barrel jack cord. Unlike traditional setups, the integrated Wi-Fi router within the dish simplifies connectivity, eliminating the need for an additional router component.
Payment for the kit is upfront, allowing flexibility in power sources with compatibility noted for 100W USB-PD power banks, as highlighted by The Verge.
This expansion in Starlink offerings caters to a broader range of users seeking reliable connectivity in diverse environments, with simplified setup and operational flexibility.
