South African Airways promotes Mauritius to Nigerian travellers

South African Airways has initiated a campaign to market Mauritius as a prime vacation destination for Nigerian travellers, especially those seeking leisure and adventure.

The airline revealed this in a statement on Tuesday after a strategic meeting with leading travel industry CEOs, where the island’s tranquility and diverse attractions were spotlighted.

According to the statement, the event was part of South African Airways’ broader strategy to expand its presence beyond Johannesburg and featured presentations showcasing Mauritius as an ideal destination for leisure, weddings, honeymoons, and adventure travel.

Speaking at the meeting, SAA’s Country Manager for Nigeria, Mrs. Leke Bamtefa, underscored the strategic importance of the Mauritius route and reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to offering smooth and convenient connections to the island.

She said, “This event is about exposing our top travel trade partners to the opportunities that abound in Mauritius as a vibrant destination. SAA has the best connections into Mauritius, and through our partnership with Emotions DMC, we offer expert ground-handling services to meet clients’ needs on arrival.”

She revealed that South African Airways is exploring plans to organise a familiarisation trip to Mauritius for selected travel professionals, allowing them to experience the destination firsthand and more effectively promote it to Nigerian clients.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Emotions Destination Management Company,

David Collard, described Mauritius as a unique blend of diverse and memorable experiences.

He said, “Emotions DMC provides inbound handling services in Mauritius, and we are excited to partner with SAA to develop the Nigerian market. Mauritius is visa-free for Nigerian travellers, provided they have essential documents such as travel insurance, return tickets, at least $100 per night in spending money, and pre-booked or proposed tour activities.”
