Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the aviation landscape of the state through continuous improvement of the state’s aviation infrastructure.
This commitment is central to a broader, multi-phased plan designed to upgrade existing facilities, streamline the overall passenger experience, and successfully attract increased regional and international air traffic to the state.
The Governor made this statement during his address at the official commissioning of a new Protocol Lounge at the Chinụa Achebe International Airport in Anambra State.
He emphasized that the modernization of aviation infrastructure remains a critical pillar of his administration’s development agenda, highlighting key benefits such as job creation, skills development, and increased air connectivity for the state.
During the commissioning, Governor Soludo articulated the dual purpose of the new facility and the wider infrastructure project. He stated: “By upgrading our airport infrastructure and delivering a world-class Protocol Lounge, we are not only improving passenger experience but also signaling to investors that Anambra is open for business. This is about jobs, growth, and sustainable development for our people.”
The Governor also stressed the essential nature of collaborative efforts with federal authorities and various international aviation partners. This partnership approach, he noted, is necessary to ensure that all development and operational practices align fully with global standards and established best practices in the aviation sector.
The newly commissioned Protocol Lounge at Chinụa Achebe International Airport is specifically designed to function as a secure, comfortable, and highly efficient space. Its primary users will be visiting dignitaries, government officials, and high-profile travelers. The exclusive facility includes several premium features such as dedicated check-in counters, executive seating arrangements, exclusive waiting areas, and strengthened security protocols.
Local officials and key stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike, have expressed optimism about the project. They anticipate that the recently upgraded airport facilities will significantly boost commerce, tourism, and investment inflows not just in the host community of Umueri but also across the broader Anambra State.
Chinụa Achebe International Airport, which is strategically located in Umueri, has historically served as a central point for the region’s aviation ambitions.
