Six facts about Nigerian Stock Exchange New GMD Temi Popoola

The Nigerian Exchange Group Plc Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Mr. Temi Popoola as GMD/CEO designate, effective January 1, 2024, subject to the SEC’s formal approval of the appointment. This announcement comes ahead of Mr Oscar Onyema’s retirement as the GMD/CEO of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc. He currently holds the position of CEO at Nigerian Exchange Limited, a branch of The Nigerian Exchange Group.

1. Temi Popoola was born in 1980.

2. He bagged a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, graduating from the University of Lagos in 2002. His academic journey continued at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he obtained a Master of Science degree in 2006.

3. Popoola’s professional journey began in London in 2002. He later moved to New York in 2006 to work at Bank of America Securities, specializing in Equity Derivatives trading.

4. He joined United Bank for Africa PLC as the Head of Structured Products and Investments.

5. From 2010 to 2015, Temi Popoola served as the Director of Sales and sales Trading at CSL Stockbrokers in Lagos, Nigeria. He then transitioned to Renaissance Capital in 2015, eventually becoming the CEO for Nigeria & West Africa.

6. The Nigerian Stock Exchange transformed in 2021, forming the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc and its three subsidiaries: Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX Regulation Limited, and NGX Real Estate Limited. Following these changes, Popoola was appointed as the CEO of Nigerian ExchangeLimited.
