Shettima cancels US business trip, blames faulty aircraft

The Vice-President, Kashim Shettima has aborted his planned trip to the United States of America to attend the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwocha in a statement on Monday, noting that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will now represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Summit in Dallas, Texas, according to Daily trust.

According to Nkwocha, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who had been scheduled to represent the President, had been unable to make the trip due to a technical problem with his aircraft, which forced him to have a change of plan on the advice on the advice of the Presidential Air Force.

Moreover, he said that other national duties will continue to be carried out by the Vice President.

Part of the statement also said: “The high-profile summit, taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, will bring together political and business leaders from across Africa, the United States, and other regions. It features high-level dialogues, networking sessions, and plenaries.”

The US-Africa Business Summit is aimed at fostering economic cooperation and exploring mutual investment opportunities between the United States and African countries.

Recall that President Tinubu had left Nigeria on Tuesday, April 23, for double leg foreign trip that took him first, to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and then embarked on a business trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Special meeting of the World Economic Forum WEF, from 28 to 29th of April,2024.

The Presidential Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, had in a statement, said the visit to the Netherlands, was at the invitation of Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the President participated in the Nigerian-Dutch Business and Investment Forum that will bring together heads of conglomerates and organizations in both countries to explore opportunities for collaboration and partnerships, especially in agriculture and water management towards innovative solutions for sustainable farming practices.
