The co-founder and former chairman of Seplat Energy, Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor,has had his bank accounts and assets frozen by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos due to an alleged debt to Access Bank Plc.

According to Arise News, the court’s decision was a result of a Motion Ex Parte made by Access Bank on July 12, 2023, with charge number FHC/L/BK/08/2023.

The court further prohibited Orjiakor, his agents, as well as any other individual or group of individuals acting under his or any other authority, from using or dealing with his funds in any bank or other financial institution in Nigeria while the motion on notice for the appointment of a special manager was being heard and decided.

A part of the court order reads: “That a consequential order is hereby made directing and/or compelling respondents harbouring the debtor’s (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiakor) shares, assets, bonds, and funds howsoever described, whether held directly by the said Debtor or via proxy, to depose on Oath the shares, assets, investments, sums, etc. standing to the credit of the Debtor (Dr. Ambrosie Bryant Chukwuelokakor) in their custody within 7 (seven) days from being served with a copy of the order of the court.

The document continued, “That an order is hereby given authorizing the creditor hereby to take over and maintain all of the debtor’s assets, whether same may be found, particularly the following properties belonging to the debtor, whether directly or through a proxy: No. 6 Agodogba Avenue, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos; No. 25A, Lugard Avenue

“No. 10C, Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos; No. 11, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Street, Ikoyi, Lagos; No. 175A, Moshood Olugbani Street, Victoria Island, Lagos; 1034B, Ologun Agbaje Street, Victoria Island, Lagos; Plot 144; Lyeowuna Drive (Off Peter Odili Road), Port Harcourt; No. 81, Woji Road, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt; and the debtor’s country mansion in Uli, Thiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.”

The court also ordered that the Nigeria Police Force “or any other law enforcement” authorities be given permission to support the bailiffs of this honourable court in carrying out the directions contained in this order. And any other assets owned by the debtor, wherever they may be located, until the motion on notice filed in this case is heard and decided.
