SEC virtual CMC meeting to boost market confidence

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria has announced there will be a virtual Capital Market Committee meeting for the first quarter of 2024.

This was disclosed by the Security and Exchange Commission to the Press on Monday.

The CMC is made up of the SEC, capital market operators, trade groups, and other stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting slated for Thursday, April 18 will aim to address the pressing issues facing the SEC with emphasis on radical solutions to strengthen Nigeria’s capital markets.

In addition, the various Technical Committees would provide market stakeholders updates on important achievements including the Commodity Ecosystem Implementation Committee, E.Dividend and Direct Cash Settlement, Financial Literacy, and Noninterest Capital Market Financial Literacy technical committees.

SEC noted, “The meeting will draw CEOs from all registered capital market firms, including broker/dealers, investment advisers, custodians, fund/portfolio managers, and more.”

The CMC is an important platform for dialogue, facilitating the exchange of ideas, addressing critical issues affecting market development and organisation as well as working together to shape the future of markets.

The Committee has been set up primarily to exchange views and provide feedback to the Securities and Exchange Commission, to further improve market efficiency and legal frameworks.
