The Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria has denied reports claiming that it has not audited its financial statements since 2014.
Nairametrics reported that In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its management, the SEC acknowledged that it is a staunch supporter of top-notch corporate governance standards and reiterates its commitment to supporting these objectives.
The SEC claimed that several publications in the print and electronic media implied that the Commission had not examined its financial statements since 2014.
According to SEC, “Contrary to these false assertions, the Commission, a law-abiding organization, has properly audited its financial accounts every year since before 2014 and beyond. It has also submitted these audited financial accounts to the necessary agencies legally authorized by the Federal Government to receive them.”
The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, as well as the relevant committees of the National Assembly, are the aforementioned organizations to which they have submitted statements.
Noting that it is a strong supporter of top-notch corporate governance standards, SEC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding these ideals and strongly advised anyone with information requests to contact the Commission via email at [email protected], where the Commission will respond as necessary.
