Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the reopening of the “Ounjè Eko” Sunday markets, which will offer a 25% discount on staple food items such as rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper.
The was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Gbenga Omotoso, via his official X handle.
He quoted the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, who confirmed the markets’ readiness to resume operations to the media on Wednesday.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that the Sunday market Ounjè Eko with 25% cut in prices should return on Sunday,” Omotoso posted.

The “Ounjè Eko” markets, initially launched in March 2024, were designed to alleviate the cost of essential food items for Lagos residents.
Despite their brief initial run, the markets will now return, with locations across Ikeja, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Epe, and Badagry divisions.
The markets are set to reopen this Sunday, providing Lagosians with another chance to purchase staple foods at significantly reduced prices.
