Sanwo-Olu calls for environmentally-friendly real estate

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has underscored the significance of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in shaping the future of the real estate sector in Lagos.

His remarks reflect a commitment to fostering a thriving environment that meets the evolving needs of the community while promoting responsible development practices.

This was disclosed by Sanwo-Olu during the two-day real estate discussions and awards, organised by Thinkmint Nigeria and held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, according to The Punch.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, praised the 2024 REDA for the theme, “Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era,” noting that it is particularly relevant given the evolving landscape of the industry.

He emphasized that real estate is not merely about constructing buildings but about creating communities, driving economic growth, and fostering social development.

He said, “This administration’s commitment to ensuring that Lagos State remains a leader in real estate development through comprehensive policies and investments in infrastructure.

“On the state’s efforts to streamline land title registrations and secure property ownership through the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy, these initiatives have contributed to boosting investor confidence and reducing property disputes, making Lagos a more attractive destination for real estate investments.”

The Governor also emphasized the crucial role of infrastructure projects, such as road expansions and the development of transportation networks, in unlocking the potential of key areas.

He noted that these initiatives are essential for enhancing accessibility and driving growth within the real estate sector.

Additionally, he underscored his administration’s commitment to sustainability, especially in coastal areas like Eko Atlantic City.

He highlighted the importance of green building practices and flood defenses as integral components of Lagos’ long-term strategy to tackle environmental challenges and mitigate climate risks.

In her welcomde address, the Managing Partner of Thinkmint Nigeria, Imeida Olaoye, commended the efforts of industry stakeholders in embracing the theme, “Navigating Change in Real Estate for a New Era”, calling on industry professionals to think outside the box and collaborate to create solutions that address current challenges.

Olaoye pointed out the significance of addressing shifts in technology, policy reforms, and market demands, all of which are crucial for the future success of the real estate sector.

She noted that staying attuned to these changes is essential for driving growth and innovation in the industry.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, Ayodeji Joseph emphasized the need to reshape real estate strategies to adapt to a rapidly changing world.

He highlighted that flexibility and responsiveness are essential for staying competitive in the evolving market landscape.

Joseph reaffirmed the LSDPC’s commitment to advancing solutions that address immediate housing needs while fostering long-term economic and infrastructural growth.

He encouraged attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and explore innovative ideas to meet the evolving demands of the real estate landscape.

Joseph reiterated LSDPC’s support for the event and expressed optimism about the future of the industry.
