Salesforce reinvents Slack with advanced AI capabilities

Salesforce announces over 1,000 job cuts amid AI expansion

Salesforce, the cloud software powerhouse, is reshaping its business around AI.

At a small event in San Francisco, United States on Tuesday, CEO Marc Benioff and his team showcased the latest outcomes of that push: an upgraded version of Slack packed with new AI capabilities.

The standout feature is a major overhaul of its AI assistant, Slackbot.

The 30 new features, set to roll out over the coming months, build on a January update that gave Slackbot more autonomy — enabling it to draft emails, schedule meetings, and search your inbox for specific information.

The standout feature announced Tuesday is what Salesforce calls reusable AI-skills. These let users define specific tasks for Slackbot that can be applied across different scenarios and contexts.

Salesforce notes that Slackbot comes with a built-in library of AI-skills, while users also have the option to create custom ones.

Slackbot now also acts as an MCP (Model Context Protocol) client, enabling it to connect with and coordinate across external services and tools. One of these is Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent development platform introduced in 2024.

Through this connection, Slackbot can “route tasks or prompt questions to Agentforce—or any agent or app within your enterprise,” Salesforce says, allowing the system to determine the most relevant and efficient path for information without human involvement.
