Salesforce has announced its acquisition of cloud data management firm Informatica in an $8 billion equity deal, marking a significant step in the tech giant’s effort to strengthen its artificial intelligence and data infrastructure capabilities.
The agreement, unveiled Tuesday, will see Salesforce pay $25 in cash per share for Informatica’s Class A and Class B-1 common stock. The offer adjusts for Salesforce’s previous investment in the company.
Founded in 1993, Informatica provides data management services to more than 5,000 customers in over 100 countries. As of the time of the announcement, the company held a market capitalization of approximately \$7.1 billion.
“This is a transformational step in delivering enterprise-grade AI that is safe, responsible, and deeply integrated with the world’s data,” said Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce. “Together, we’ll supercharge Agentforce, Data Cloud, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360—enabling autonomous agents to act with intelligence, context, and confidence across every enterprise.”
According to Salesforce, the acquisition will enhance the company’s agentic AI capabilities by providing greater access to data infrastructure and governance tools, allowing AI systems to operate “safely, responsibly, and at scale.”
The acquisition comes roughly a year after initial reports in April 2024 suggested Salesforce was eyeing Informatica. At the time, both companies’ share prices dropped amid concerns over integration challenges, and Informatica publicly denied any sale discussions. However, those early speculations have now materialized into a finalized deal.
Informatica is not Salesforce’s first acquisition in the data management space this year. In September, the company purchased Own Company for $1.9 billion in cash, a move aimed at enhancing its data security and protection offerings.
“Data security has never been more critical,” said Steve Fisher, general manager at Salesforce, at the time of the Own Company acquisition. “Own’s proven expertise and products will enhance our ability to offer robust data protection and management solutions.”
The Informatica deal reflects Salesforce’s continued strategy of building a comprehensive ecosystem for AI-driven enterprise software, positioning itself as a leader in next-generation cloud and data services.
